Zebra was founded in 1929 as a small factory for rubber goods. On July 15, 1932 with order № 137/1932 of the Sofia County Court, the company was officially registered as a joint-stock venture.
Starting in 1989, like many other Eastern European companies Zebra too faced tumultuous times filled with economical, social and political problems. In 1991 Zebra was still state-owned and was put up for liquidation. We remained resilient and committed to our good practices and traditions, which allowed us to not just survive but grow into an industry leader in Bulgaria. Through a lot of hard work, by 1997 the company was profitable again and was successfully privatized. At first, 75% of the company shares were bought by its 712 former and present employees. By the end of 2003, the employees owned 100% of the shares.
In 2002, Zebra became the first Bulgarian company to implement an Integrated Management System in compliance with standards ISO:9001 and ISO:14001. In 2005 we also received OHSAS 18001 certification. We uphold them by consistently providing products and services that meet customer and regulatory requirements, while remaining environmentally conscious.
